As a big music fan, I also think that spotify keeps us in a golden cage. I haven’t found any new music through there. It’s just the same random playlists over and over, plus suggestions of mainstream trash.
So I’ve decided to go offline again, buy from bandcamp, rip cds and play vinyls from time to time. I’m using an old pc connected to a Sony STRDH190 receiver that plays to four Edifier R1280T. It’s a simple and cheap setup but I don’t need anything else yet.
I also have a Behringer Xenyx X1204USB which can be used for delivering a nice mix of metal and rap while having beer with friends.
However one of the most important things while listening music is to tell the world what I’m listening to, been doing that since 2005 thanks to last.fm. And since I’m not using a fancy GUI but kew instead, I needed a scrobbler too, and rescrobbled it’s a simple and nice solution.
Finally a few scripts to sync some USB memories for playing in the car and everything is ready.
